Kinetiq’s Elysium and why it matters for the Future of On-Chain Ecosystems

ATR.- Every so often, Web3 experiences a shift that reminds us why we build in public: genuine engineering solving real, observable bottlenecks.
Over the past two years, Hyperliquid carved out a formidable reputation as the gold standard for on-chain derivatives. By purpose-building HyperCore, it proved that decentralized finance could deliver execution speeds and liquidity capable of rivaling top-tier centralized exchanges. Yet, as any active ecosystem participant knows, success brings its own friction.
While derivatives trading flourished, the general-purpose environment—HyperEVM—struggled to match that same relentless rhythm. Builders attempting to build broader decentralized applications encountered dual-block architectural hurdles, latency mismatches, and occasional gas spikes reaching upwards of $20 per swap. Crucially, spot market activity lagged behind, leaving an untapped frontier in asset discovery and liquidity bootstrapping.
Now, Kinetiq—an organic pillar responsible for the lion’s share of HyperEVM’s economic activity—has stepped forward with a compelling blueprint: Elysium.
Bridging the Speed Gap Without Leaving Home
In classical mythology, Elysium was a realm where life was effortless, devoid of storms and turbulence. For traders and developers accustomed to network congestion and bridging friction, the name feels deliberate.
Rather than fragmenting liquidity across unrelated ecosystems, Elysium is engineered as a dedicated Layer 2 co-located directly with HyperCore. Instead of introducing a speculative, foreign token for network interactions, it adopts native HYPE as its gas token. This single design choice eliminates the traditional user barrier to entry—zero onboarding friction for existing network participants.
Equally transformative is how Elysium rethinks the bridge between smart contracts and orderbooks. By customizing the native L1Read precompile, Elysium essentially transforms Hyperliquid itself into an ultra-fast, native oracle. Instead of relying on delayed off-chain data feeds or settling for basic Best Bid and Offer (BBO) snapshots, applications on Elysium can access deep, sub-second liquidity metrics directly from HyperCore.
Solving the Spot Liquidity Paradox
The data tells a clear story: while perpetual trading on HyperCore continues to set records, spot markets across the network have experienced noticeable stagnation.
According to community tracking on Dune Analytics, Hyperliquid’s weekly share of spot volume relative to major centralized venues recently hovered near historical lows. Further metrics tracked via Hyperscreener reveal that native orderbook bootstrapping through HIP-2 has seen its slowest cycle since late 2024.

The Elysium token lifecycle pipeline
Elysium addresses this directly by optimizing for high-frequency trading (HFT) throughput and paving the way for Proactive Market Makers (PropAMMs). On networks like Solana, PropAMMs already command immense spot volumes because algorithms can quote tight spreads and hedge in real time. Elysium opens that exact capability on Hyperliquid, establishing a unified lifecycle for new projects:
Bootstrap grassroots liquidity on long-tail AMMs.
Deepen order execution through high-speed PropAMMs.
Graduate seamlessly into HyperCore native spot orderbooks and permissionless HIP-3 perpetual listings.
Economic Alignment: Putting Builders and Community First
What truly elevates Elysium beyond standard Layer 2 rollups is its economic architecture. Historically, many secondary layers drained value from their underlying Layer 1s without reciprocating. Elysium inverts that dynamic by redistributing sequencer revenue across three distinct pillars:

The Bigger Picture: Why Organic Voice Matters
Technology alone does not build durable digital communities—people do. And yes: That’s where Social Miners are good for.
When an infrastructure layer sets aside 25% of its ongoing sequencer yield specifically to empower active builders and user programs, it sends an unmistakable signal: value belongs to those who actively participate, build, and tell the story.
The crypto landscape is steadily outgrowing empty speculative cycles. The emerging era belongs to sustainable networks where technical precision meets authentic community contribution. As ecosystems like Elysium evolve, the bridge between complex architecture and everyday adoption will be built by knowledgeable users, grassroots educators, and decentralized advocates sharing verified insights.
Elysium represents a refreshing return to organic, builder-driven momentum. For everyone tracking the next evolution of decentralized finance, this is a development well worth watching—and amplifying.
